Webinar - Designing for Dignity – User Experience & Wayfinding

The AGM will be followed by a webinar presentation delivered by Dr YE Ng on user experience and wayfinding.

This webinar will share insights from case studies of residential aged care homes and satellite health centres in Southeast Queensland, highlighting how spatial qualities, intuitive design, and signage strategies shape the journeys of residents and patients. Drawing on mixed-methods research—including semi-structured interviews, journey mapping, and behavioural observation—the session will demonstrate how evidence-based design can transform user experience in both healthcare and aged care settings.

The findings have informed design interventions now applied across multiple Bolton Clarke sites nationally, offering practical strategies for architects, designers, and providers committed to creating environments that empower older people and enhance the hospital experience.

By the end this presentation, you will

  • Understand the role of user experience in how residents and patients navigate hospitals and aged care environments.

  • Explore evidence-based design strategies that go beyond signage, integrating architecture, interiors, and environmental cues to support dignity and independence.

  • Learn from real-world case studies in aged care homes and satellite health centres in Southeast Queensland, backed by mixed-methods research.

  • Gain practical design insights applied across Bolton Clarke sites nationally—tools you can adapt for hospitals, aged care, and community health projects.
