For many years the priority design driver in mental health facilities has been security. Observation, restriction and separation have been the definers of our facility models. However more recently it has been recognised that a more proactive rather than reactive approach to the needs of patients may point us in the direction of an alternate design philosophy. While safety of patients and staff is of course still vital, it is generally accepted that there is a need for our mental health facilities to do more than simply restrict! They have a role to play in supporting, in comforting and in enabling those who are undertaking their mental health recovery journeys.
Please join us for a local in-person event exclusively in Perth where our international speakers will, through their varied experience working within the mental health sector, explore a number of examples of how this balance of safety versus therapeutic environment is being achieved in both the UK and Europe.
The event will be recorded (not live-streamed) to provide an opportunity for AHDC members who are not based in Perth to watch the event on demand.
