Queensland’s newest Specialist Public Health Facility – The Surgical Treatment And Rehabilitation Service (STARS), A Virtual Tour

Adj Professor Debbie McNamara Executive Director - Surgical, Treatment and Rehabilitation Service (STARS)

Metro North Health’s new $340 Million specialist public health facility – the 182-bed Surgical, Treatment and Rehabilitation Service (STARS) – has been successfully developed and commissioned as part of the $1.1B redevelopment of Herston Quarter. STARS officially commenced operations in early 2021 as the first greenfield digital public hospital in Australia providing much needed specialist rehabilitation and low acuity procedural services for the community.

In this fourth AHDC educational event for 2021, Adj. Professor Debbie McNamara will take us on a virtual tour of the STARS, providing an overview of how Metro North Health has:

  • Achieved the delivery of contemporary, efficient, and effective health services by optimising models of care and facility design.
  • Operationalised this new hospital in terms of people, facility, systems, and processes to ensure the safe commissioning of health services and achieve Interim Accreditation.
  • Utilised an innovative public-private partnership model to deliver public health infrastructure that meets future healthcare needs.
