Our Purpose

Building upon a specialised skill set and body of knowledge, health planners, system, service, and health facility level can bring new certainty to future health care delivery.

Within the complexity of health systems facing a range of imminent challenges, health planning promotes effective clinical service delivery, through model of care development, access, technology and capacity improvements.

Our members offer confidence across the health industry at a time when there is both certainty and uncertainty about health and health service delivery in the coming years and next decade.

Who we are

To clarify the role and scope of service of Health Planners in the Australasian region, a Capability Framework for Health Planners has been developed which describes the Health Planners’ capabilities, capacities, scope of practice, qualifications, skills, and body of knowledge and attributes.

Health System Planners

The Health Systems Planner works the complexities of system level planning and delivery, the effects on populations and the challenges of system wide reform. The Health Systems Planner navigates complex health environments and drives systemic improvements that meet the needs of diverse populations, and which enhance the effectiveness, efficiency, and equity of healthcare services.

Health Service Planners

The Health Service Planner systematically identifies the need and drivers for health service delivery of a selected population, geographical catchment, or clinical service. The Health Service Planner activates effective and efficient health solutions for an entity, network or organisation to better meet the needs of a population.

Health Facility Planners

The Health Infrastructure/Facilities Planner translates and interprets the health services' needs into infrastructure requirements, which are fit for purpose, cost-effective and meets the different professional bodies and regulatory standards that inform the building design and construction for health care delivery.

The Australasian Association of Health Planners Inc.

In September 2024, the AAHP was registered under the NSW Associations Incorporation Act 2009. Membership will be extended to persons who have appropriate experience and qualifications.

The AAHP Constitution recognises Health Planners at Student, Affiliate, Associate, Member and Fellow level.

AAHP memberships applications may be submitted following the AAHP Launch at the AHDC Conference November 26, 2024.

Our Aim

The Health Planning profession will actively contribute to the improvement of the health and wellbeing of the community through the establishment of resilient and sustainable health systems, services and infrastructure which are responsive to specific population needs in Australia and Aotearoa/New Zealand.

Our Goals

  1. Advocate for effective health planning across the industry by recognised and qualified Health Planners.
  2. Develop professional, educational and other materials to promote the development of the association and its members to a recognised professional status.
  3. Provide professional recognition to appropriately qualified and experienced health planning practitioners.
