June 2018 Educational Event – Briefing by Design

Thursday, 21st June 2018

Speaker: Ian Mitchell, Principal, Conrad Gargett, currently working on the Victoria Heart Hospital.

Ian believes that there is a strong argument for design input into the briefing process for health projects; that this should occur as part of a collaborative consultation process and that it will yield demonstrably better outcomes.

Ian will discuss this in the context of recent experience and briefs we have come to know and love.

Ian is a Principal of Conrad Gargett, and an award-winning architect who joined the practice in 2006 after building a distinguished career with firms such as John Simpson Associates and Daryl Jackson Pty Ltd, as well as a period at the helm of his own practice. A highly regarded leader in the architecture and construction industry, Ian has previously enjoyed a term as the Queensland President of the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) and was made a Life Fellow in 2011. He is well-versed in project and design management across industry sectors. His thorough, purposeful approach to design is fuelled by a deep desire to create something meaningful, emphasising function and providing lasting positive experiences for inhabitants. Ian considers his work on prominent designs, such as the acclaimed Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital, as some of the greatest highlights of his career. He is committed to a life of learning and education, contributing his knowledge and skills as a mentor through the AIA, a Design tutor at Queensland University of Technology, a member of numerous juries and award panels, and a presenter at design conferences nationally and internationally

AHDC June 2017 Education Event – NEUROPHILIC DESIGN

AHDC June 2017 Education Event.

NEUROPHILIC DESIGN

and Lessons Learnt in Designing Health Environments

Thursday 22 June 2017

Speaker: Professor Heidi Zeeman.

Professor Zeeman is a Principal Research Fellow at the Menzies Health Institute Queensland, at Griffith University. She is widely published in international journals and currently is writing her second book, Brain and the Built Environment: Heidi’s research has centred on understanding the experiences of people following catastrophic injury and illness and the environments in which they live, recover and work. Heidi will speak about Neurophilic design, which is a term that refers to the breadth and depth of the brain-built environment interface. Capturing healthy and injured brain functions and behaviours, and integrating this with design research, the neurophilic model explores from a holistic and evidence based perspective how people best respond to places and spaces.

Pecha Kucha – Lessons Learnt in Designing Health Environments

Following Professor Zeeman will be an interactive interstate Pecha Kucha type discussion on Lessons Learnt in designing health environments. The session to include five contributions from around the country, each of 3 mins duration plus 3 mins discussion, and presented in a good natured and light hearted manner in the spirit of collegially sharing information and experience of health design professionals, which was the impetus behind the formation of the Australian Health Design Council.Following our speakers there will be an opportunity to network with AHDC members, the speakers and colleagues. “Ahead of the Game”

Implementation of Digital Integration into Hospital Planning and Building, on Thursday, 23 February 2017

The event will host presentations on the Implementation of Digital Integration into Hospital Planning and Building. – Click Here to Book

The implementation of Digital Integration systems requires the capture and exchange of information in the health space to be integrated with disparate systems such as Electronic (patient) Medical Records (EMR), Pathology, Radiology, and the burgeoning Medical equipment interfaces which include minimally invasive surgical, robotic and Interventional equipment such as MRI. The successful implementation of these systems poses major challenges in facility design.

The requirements of best practice in patient care to incorporate and future proof these systems drives the design and construction of our health care facilities. Understanding the interface between the technical requirements of the design and build-ability is an ongoing challenge for our Industry.

This Seminar will present subject matter by experts from both the Integration and build-ability perspective and will be of vital interest to all involved in health facility design.

Tom Craddock from Hospital IT will present from the Information Communications Technology (ICT) planning and design perspective.

Arch Fotheringham from Multiplex will present lessons learnt from the buildability perspective.
